This tutorial works in most versions of Photoshop even though it was recorded using CS6. So you should be able to follow along with almost any CS version.
Here’s the transcript for the video above:
Hey guys, I’m going to show you how to whiten teeth in Photoshop using a couple of very simple steps.
So first you can select the Magic Wand Tool and if you don’t see it, you might have to click and hold so the selection will come up.
And there’s a Tolerance number up here, and basically for the sake of this tutorial, the lower the number, the more accurate your selections are going to be.
So for this image I’m going to choose 25, and depending on how distinct the teeth are from the gums in your image, that’s going to determine what tolerance level you use. So you may have to adjust this a little bit.
So you’re going to hold down the “Shift” key and click. And you’re going to keep clicking until you’ve selected the teeth.
OK, that’s good enough. It’s not completely perfect, as you can see I left out some area over here but you’ll get the idea.
So now we’re going to come over to our layer palette and select the Adjustment Layer button.
And we’re going to select Hue/Saturation.
Now, if you’re using Photoshop CS4 or lower, you’re probably going to see a dialog box but it basically works the same.
So you’re going to go the Saturation and drag it a little over to the left. And as you can see his teeth are starting to get a little whiter. You don’t want to go too far, because they’ll turn gray, which is not the look you want I’m sure.
So if you scroll down, now you can select “Lightness” and you’re going to brighten it just a little bit but not too much.
And that’s it!
So now let’s check the before and after.
Now the other way you can do this is by selecting the lasso tool. So you’re going to select that.
This allows you to be a lot more accurate than the Magic Wand, but you’re basically just going to draw around the teeth like I’m doing here.
So once you’re finished drawing around the teeth you’re going to perform the same steps as before.
In our layer palette, click the Adjustment Layer, Hue Saturation. And you’re going to move the Saturation slider down just a little bit until you’re happy with the color.
And then you’re going to improve the Lightness just a bit.
And you’re done!
