Getting white teeth doesn’t have to cost a fortune, and if your teeth are only slightly stained yellow then you may be surprised how many items lying around your home can effectively brighten your smile.
Crunchy Fruits and Vegetables
Crunchy fruits and veggies will gently cleanse your teeth. An apple a day can also keep yellowing teeth away.
Make a Baking Soda/Water Paste
Make a paste with 3 parts baking soda & 1 part water.
WARNING: Baking soda can be abrasive to the enamel, so do not use everyday.
Crushed Strawberries – Who New?
Rub crushed strawberries on your teeth. The Vitamin C and seeds will help remove plaque.
WARNING: Strawberries contain acid and sugars. Wait 30 minutes and brush after using.
Create a mouthwash with equal parts water and 3% Hydrogen Peroxide.
Swish around in your mouth after brushing. (Do not swallow.)
WARNING: Even though this product is great for teeth whitening (and is also used in gel strips), too much peroxide can be harsh on the enamel so use sparingly.
Use a Banana Peel
Take the inside of a peel and rub it on your teeth for 2-5 minutes.
Leave it on for a few minutes and brush afterwards. Continue for 1-2 weeks for noticeable results.
This tip made my list for “weird teeth whitening” tricks.
Add Calcium to Your Diet
The Vitamin D and calcium contained in dairy products (milk, yogurt and cheese) help remineralize tooth enamel and protect against plaque.
The less plaque, the whiter your teeth will be.
Buy an Electric Toothbrush
This is my #1 teeth-whitening tip that removed years of stains.
Brush 2x’s a day with an electronic toothbrush instead of a manual one and you WILL notice results after a month or two.
The increased brush strokes per minute and technology of the brush provide a deeper clean and polishes teeth better.
I’ve been a long-time fan of the Sonicare toothbrush and it has done wonders for my teeth when it comes to whitening them. My dental check-ups are a BREEZE!
Wait 30 Minutes Before Brushing After Meals
Always wait at least 30 minutes after eating before brushing if you’ve consumed sugary or acidic foods so you don’t brush the sugar/acid back into your teeth.
That would sort of defeats the purpose of trying to keep your teeth white, huh?
All results will vary depending on your genes and how stained your teeth are.
Obviously the more yellow the teeth, the less effective the tips will be. Always consult with your dentist before trying a new regimen or if you aren’t sure if something is safe.
Use this info as a guide, but don’t substitute the Internet for professional advice. Remember, what works for someone else may not work for you.
You should also remember products that contain acid, baking soda or peroxide can be harmful if overused.
Always use whitening agents in MODERATION so you don’t ruin your enamel and end up with gray or yellow teeth like this…
This is what can happen with over-whitening.
You expose your dentin (which is naturally yellow or gray) because your enamel has been eaten away. So be careful you don’t overdo whitening your teeth.
When you’re young, you don’t concern yourself with the future, but the long-term effects of over-whitening can dull your teeth and make you look older.
Have you ever wondered why older people have gray or yellow teeth? It’s because enamel naturally wears off over time, but if you use too many whitening agents, you could lose your enamel far before your golden years.
